My fantastic seasonal gig with a superb family will soon come to an end. I am so sad to leave my spirited, sassy, wildly independent 10 month old. I am looking for 24 - 30 hrs/week with a great infant or toddler with equally great parents. In the perfect world, I would provide care 3 days/week for 8 - 10 hours per day. I am available to begin Sept. 15 and my rates start on a sliding scale of $14 - $17/ hour. I live in North Portland and prefer to work in the North and North East neighborhoods. However, if you feel like we are super in line with our care giving styles and may be a superb fit, contact me anyways.
About me: I am a childcare wizard with over 10 years of experience. I have the most experience with little ones 5 months to 3 years of age. I have a background in teaching (pre-K - 12th grade), from language classes to special education to outdoor education. My experience in pre-K included Waldorf and Montessori modalities. I recertified in CPR and First Aid in June and am Trustline Certified (includes a background check). I have many solid references with families I still have relationships with.
About my style: I am an active, creative, and unique caregiver with a good sense of humour. Spending most of my days with little ones, I like to keep it fresh. As a career nanny, parents often ask for my advice in regards to their children's mysterious behaviour. I do not have a textbook childcare philosophy, and enjoy drawing on techniques across a range of styles. With flexibility, I like to work with the parents and children to find something that suites everyone.
I like to explore nature, establish strong attachment and trust through affection, and foster creativity and personality through art, songs, and storytelling. I am a naturalist and herbalist, so most of my outdoor adventures with wee ones involve relating to plant life small and large. With toddlers I like to dance, garden, cook, and have curious conversations. With younger babies my care includes lots of love and touch, baby wearing, floor exploration, singing and reading practice. I have experience working with parents to establish rhythms to support babies in feeding and sleeping. I really believe in none to very little exposure of technology and sugar for children under five. I have potty training experience, and love talking to kids about poop!
I have experience with a wide range of parents, children, and care styles. I am a sensitive caregiver and enjoy diversity, and have loved working with LGBTQ and alternative families and those with unique life perspectives.
