I am a former Special Education teacher and Child and Family Advocate looking to find part time nanny work or full time given the right circumstances. A little about my background experience working with kiddos... I taught grades 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Reading and Language Arts in a low income school district. I received my Bachelors in Special Education K-12 with a Reading and Children's Literature Endorsement from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. I have spent the last 7 years supporting, coaching and training foster providers to provide therapeutic care for foster children experiencing significant mental health and behavioral challenges. My training over the years has emphasized Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Behavior Modification Techniques, Trauma Informed Care Giving, Crisis Intervention, Attachment Theory and Cultural Awareness. I also provided direct care to youth ages 6 to 18 years old. Many had special needs and were diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, PTSD, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, and Bipolar. What I've learned over the years is that children are far more than their labels and diagnosis. They all thrive when provided the care and nurture they need and deserve. "Children do well if they can" is the motto of CPS and it's our job to find out why they can't and teach those skills needed for them to be successful and live a better quality of life.
If you have a child with special needs and are looking for a skilled provider, I'm particularly interested in supporting your family. I can even help you navigate systems of care and coach you on how to be your child's best advocate whether that's within schools on IEP development or finding best medical treatments and resources available if you need or want help with that.
I also have raised two of my own children who have had high needs and I provide childcare for a church group every Monday and Friday night. I have children in care ranging from 12months old to 11 years old. I'm comfortable working with up to 4 children at a time depending on ages and needs of the children.
I have references that can attest to the good work I do. I'm experienced with all age levels. I can pass a criminal background check. I have a clean driving record. I have reliable transportation.
Did I mention yet that I enjoy arts and crafts? I also think it's important to involve kids in physical activity, explore the outdoors and share in cultural experiences. I can help with home work, too!
I do have some limitations to my schedule such as I have a commitment to my daughter every Friday at 4pm. And like I mentioned before I babysit every Monday from 6:30--8pm and Friday from 5:30-7pm.
